I am now looking for Operations English Trainer position with a company or Business English Instructor.

Training within a company as part of the Human Resources Department, one has the opportunity to interact with management in order to present education material that improves the functioning of the organization. A basic course in Financial Accounting improves the workers understanding of their position in the organization. The worker usually understands that training is to improve their performance of their job and to improve their service for better client satisfction. The following is a review of my work experience and the contrast between working in businesses and in foreign universities.

I have taught Business English in China from September 1999 until May 2008. I have an MS Accountancy, Financial and all courses for an MBA in Finance. I am an Enrolled Agent, meaning I can plan, prepare and represent tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service of the United States. I have worked seven years in banking and as a Contract Senior Accountant twenty years. I have also taught Finance and Auditing in 1986 as an Adjunct Professor in a World Bank Development MBA Program in the Peoples Republic of Somalia for California State University, Fresno and SIDAM, replacing the Accounting Professor. I have also taught four Introduction to Accounting courses without a book.

While teaching in China, I have tried to present Financial Accounting in such a way that the Chinese students could understand the operations of an organization and after a few years of experience working for someone else, could become an entrepreneur. One of the national government goals of China is to create entrepreneurs that are needed to develop the jobs for the large population of China. A professor at the People’s National Congress, August 2005) in his report, stated that Chinese students were graduating and when starting to work in a large organization acted as if they were working alone and for themselves. They did not understand they were part of a large group creating a product or a service for customers of the organization. Some of the Chinese students entering the MBA programs of universities in the United States do know enough about the functions of an organization and when put into study groups do not know how to participate and just watch the other members of the group. Without participating in the decisions, they do not gain enough knowledge to use what is learned. My course in financial Accounting would prepare them for studying abroad.

In China, business students do not study Accounting in the Management Schools at the university, because the Accounting is taught in the School of Economics. While presenting courses to business students, one recognizes that the students do not know that accounting records the monetary events and results of a period for the organization. This was especially true of eMBA and Doctor of Business Administration classes when they start their studies. After a budget has been prepared for a future period, the results of that period should be compared with the budget in order to evaluate the results of the actual operations with the budget. This comparison should be taking place during the period to make changes to the budget that are necessary for more efficient operations and final financial results.

The Foreign Affairs Officers and Department Chairpersons do not know what they are looking for in an instructor and do not have experience in foreign business. For this reason, one is contracted to teach a specific class, such as Financial Accounting. A specific program and class hours are agreed upon, but when the classes start, everything is changed with no input from the contracted professor. Courses that need four hours a week are changed to two hours, which makes it impossible to complete the intructional material. With two hours a week the students do not study the material and the instructor is automatically at fault for their failure to study. The Foreign Affairs Office reports no one understands what is being taught, due to the short class hours, and not that the instruction was not four hours a week as needed. A review of my resume will indicate that I have knowledge of the operation of the organization gained from working on different projects in different companies and organizations. This experience is useless when there is no coordination between the Foreign Affairs Offices and the Accounting, Finance or Management Departments the on what should be taught and how it should be taught. Important chapters of the books were not copied and given to the students, because someone decides the students do not need to know very important operations that the Chinese professors and administrators do not know or understand. I worked sixty hours a week last semester trying to teach 285 students, some with only two hours a week of class
