During my 10 years working in news media, I have acquired a great deal of experience at newspapers, a Web site, television stations and now as the head of Dow Jones Newswires' copy desk in Tokyo.
Let me summarize here the most important points:
- Experience at a range of media throughout the region, including China and Taiwan.
- Exposure to positions of responsibility that rely on excellent organization and communication skills. My current position, for example, requires not only that I lead a team, but also that I coordinate closely with the bureau’s reporting team and colleagues across the world.
- A keen eye for detail and the ability to handle numerous tasks under acute time pressure. At the newswire in particular, fractions of a second count - every day presents new problems, as well as opportunities that need to be recognized and grasped.
- At all the positions I’ve held, I have proved myself, as my references will tell you, as a highly motivated and engaged self-starter, able to take on, initiate or lead any task or project. This has involved a great deal of horizontal and vertical cooperation, teamwork and organization.
I’m now looking to broaden my horizons, not just in moving to China but also in expanding my experience beyond the editorial side of news media.
