I, Luisa Hernandez, have a unique intercultural experience, as I am a Colombian Spanish and English teacher who has also lived and taught in the United States.
Currently, I work at the Corporaci¨®n de Educaci¨®n Tecnol¨®gica - Colsubsidio in Bogota, Colombia. I teach advanced English to students in technical and technological fields such as Information Technology, Quality Control, and, Hotel Management. I also teach Spanish to foreigners who live in Bogota. My language teaching experience has been with different populations such as children, teenagers, and adults. In every class I encourage students to think in the target language, while fostering their curiosity for the world, the culture diversity, and the language itself. I enjoy creating a friendly and supportive learning environment where students can express themselves feeling confident.
Cultural diversity is a particular interest of mine. I have worked for a year at a Spanish immersion school in California, in the United States, with first and second graders. I was in charge of several activities and class projects, including reading groups, homework assistance, and cultural activities such as presentations and traditional dancing. This was a very rewarding experience, and this is why I wish to continue teaching at an international school.
I took TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) in 2015, obtaining a score equivalent to C1 (Proficient User), which certifies my skills in the English Language.
I have social skills and a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards teamwork. I am adaptable and willing to live and explore new work environments. I am also committed with institutional events.
I enjoy working and teaching, but I also make the most out of my leisure time. Activities such as reading, hiking, traveling, and learning from new cultures and people are of my interest. I enjoy trying to find how everything is linked, and how every experience can be connected and used in the teaching practice. I am also a curious person who is interested in learning from my students.
I am ready to have a new cultural and work experience, and China would be a great place for this. Therefore, I hope you consider my application to teach at your School. Please, feel free to contact me.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my application.
Sincerely yours,
Luisa Hernandez
